Charges against Dramat and Sibiya provisionally withdrawn

PRETORIA, October 8 – The National Prosecuting Authority on Monday provisionally withdrew charges against former national Hawks boss Anwa Dramat and ex-Gauteng Hawks head Shadrack Sibiya over the alleged illegal rendition of several Zimbabwean nationals in 2010.

The State withdrew the charges in the high court in Pretoria.

Former police investigator Lieutenant-Colonel Lesley Maluleke remains charged.

Dramat, Sibiya and Maluleke were charged in 2016.

They were accused of unlawfully handing over Zimbabwean fugitives to police in the neighbouring country.

The charges included seven of kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice and contravening the Immigration Act, following the rendition of several Zimbabweans who were wanted for the alleged murder of a top policeman in their country.

The case against Maluleke was postponed to November 12. (ANA)
