Case of Parktown Boys polo coach who allegedly abused boys postponed

JOHANNESBURG, July 30 – The trial against a former Parktown Boys High School polo coach facing 160 charges, ranging from rape, sexual assault to attempted murder, hit a further delay on Monday after his defence council withdrew from the matter.

During proceedings at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, the coach’s legal representative withdrew from the matter because they had not been furnished with funds.

The 22-year-old coach was seen on CCTV allegedly touching a learner inappropriately and making his way into one of the dorm rooms at the school’s boarding facility. He resigned when allegations of sexual assault and rape were levelled against him.

He is out on R3,000 bail.
The coach has applied for legal aid and his new legal representative needs time to familiarise himself with the case before he is able to proceed.

The matter was postponed to 13 August.
