JOHANNESBURG, June 7 – Egyptian English literature professor Mona Prince has been suspended from her job at Suez Canal University, more than a year after a video of her dancing sparked controversy online, Al Ahram reported.
A copy of a decision by university head Al-Sayed Al-Sharqawy, which Prince shared online on Tuesday, showed that the university’s disciplinary committee ordered her to be suspended from her position three weeks ago. However, her removal was only announced and reported by local media this week.
Investigations were launched last year by the university after Prince shared a video online showing her dancing on the rooftop of her home in a bikini.
Her behaviour was labelled “inappropriate” and deemed to have brought the university into disrepute.
Following the decision, Prince pledged to take the matter to court stating that the dismissal was absurd as she had not hurt anybody or sexually harassed any of her students and that her dancing was a matter of personal freedom. ANA
