A man, believed to be in his 40s, was left critically injured yesterday following a cash-in-transit heist at the R71 and R36 intersection just before Merensky High School outside of Tzaneen in Limpopo, ER24 said on Friday.

Spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived on the initial scene to find a light motor vehicle on the side of the road. Numerous members of the local authorities were on the scene.

According to Meiring, paramedics were informed that a patient was found approximately 3km further down the R36.

“On arrival, paramedics found a man lying on the side of the road. Assessments showed that the man had sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder and another to his abdomen, leaving him in a critical condition”, said ER24 officials.

Meiring said treatment and advanced life support was immediately initiated, in an effort to stabilize the patient’s vital signs. The man was later  transported to a nearby private hospital for further treatment.

The exact details surrounding the incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
