Wenger confirms Arsenal in talks with Dortmund over Aubameyang

London (dpa) – Arsene Wenger confirmed Arsenal are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over striker Pierre-Emrick Aubameyang.

The Gabon international has been widely linked with a move to London but the Arsenal manager said it was still early stages.

“Confident or not confident? I don’t know,” he told a news conference on Tuesday.

“At the moment, we are not close to doing any deal, whether it’s Aubameyang or anyone else.

“You never know how close they are. These are the kind of things that, at the moment, are one of the possible movements.

“The final decision is not made.”

When asked if striker Olivier Giroud could go to Dortmund as part of a deal, Wenger replied: “The negotiations are not as far as that.”

Wenger also spoke of the Monday swap deal which sent forward Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United in exchange for midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

“We lose a world-class player and we gain a world-class player,” he said. “How efficient will that be?

“That will be down to the performances of both players.”

Wenger expressed excitement over Mkhitaryan, who was pursued by Arsenal before joining United from Dortmund in 2016.

“Mkhitaryan has the qualities to integrate into our game and that is based a lot on movement and technical quality,” he said

“I think he has the attributes, a good team attitude as well and I’m confident that it will work.

“He can play in all kinds of positions – on the flanks and he can play through the middle as well.

“I think he’s very versatile and it should help us to be very efficient going forward.”
