Germany only ninth in season rankings as Europe slide continues

Berlin– The Bundesliga’s poor showing in Europe this season is
mirrored in UEFA’s current rankings in which Germany is placed only

Hoffenheim, Hertha Berlin and Cologne all failed to reach the
knock-out stage of the Europa League after Freiburg fell in the
qualifying phase.

It is the first time no German team has got through the group stage
of the Europa League. Only Bayern Munich are now left in the
Champions League, while Bundesliga runners-up RB Leipzig and Borussia
Dortmund drop into the Europa League knock-out stage.

In Friday’s coefficient for the season compiled by European body
UEFA, Germany has 6.000 points, well off the top three – England
(12.214), who have five teams in the last 16 of the Champions League,
Spain (11.000) and Italy (10.833) – but also behind Russia, France,
Cyprus, Portugal and Austria.
