JOHANNESBURG, November 13 – Thirteen people were injured when the taxi they were travelling in rolled off the N1 highway, about 80km outside of Bloemfontein near Winburg.
ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said when paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene on Sunday evening they found the wrecked taxi on its roof at the bottom of an embankment.
Several people were still inside the taxi. A few others had managed to get out and were found lying on the ground outside the vehicle.
“Paramedics assessed them and found that two had sustained critical injuries while eight others had sustained moderate. Three other people escaped the incident with only minor injuries,” said Meiring.
“The patients were treated for their injuries, and the critically injured were provided with advanced life support interventions. One of the critically injured patients was later airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.”
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
