Two children drown in a river in Limpopo

JOHANNESBURG, November 6 – Two boys drowned while swimming in the Mohlaletse River in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the two were part of a group of children who went swimming at the river on Sunday.

”Two of them got stuck deep in the water and drowned. One of the boys ran to the village to call for help. Community members entered the water and retrieved the boys. Police and emergency services reacted swiftly and upon arrival, they certified them dead at the scene,” said Ngoepe.

The boys, aged 11, were identified as Tukelo Mahlanya and Moruthanyana Mahlanya. An inquest into the deaths has been opened.
