BRITS, October 26 – It will be risky to release a man accused of the attempted murder of an Amcu member on bail, the Brits Magistrate’s Court heard on Thursday.
“It will be risky to grant the applicant bail. His life will be in danger. The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union and National Union of Mineworkers [Amcu] are engaged in a bitter feud…’ Seargent Aaron Khounou told the court.
He was testifying in the opposed bail application of a 37-year-old National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) member who is accused of attempting to kill an Amcu member in Mooinooi south of Brits.
The court had ordered that his photograph must not be published.
Khounou told the court the victim was shot five times in his body on July 22, after a soccer game in Mooinooi.
“The applicant and the victim had finished playing soccer at the sports ground. The victim was in his car when he heard a gunshot, he opened the door and saw the applicant, he asked him what was he doing and grabbed him by his tracksuit top, the applicant continue to fire shots and the victim runaway…”
The matter continues.
