Fire destroys 16 shacks in North West

MOGWASE, October 16 – A fire destroyed at least 16 shacks in Mogwase outside Rustenburg on Monday, the Moses Kotane local municipality said.

Spokesperson Beuty Makganye said that the shacks were burnt at Mogwase Unit 8 informal settlement, at around midday and that no injuries were reported.

“The municipality’s disaster management is currently gathering information on the extent of damage including people affected who were mostly to be at work at the time of the fire which is suspected to have been caused by paraffin stove.”

She said the mayor of Moses Kotane Ralesole Diale, Speaker Sipho Vava, Portfolio Head of Community Safety, Victor Kheswa and Ward 33 councillor Diphetogo Mmolawa have visited the affected area.
