JOHANNESBURG, October 13 – The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) on Thursday, applauded the parents who reported the matter of 83 learners allegedly being sexually assaulted by a scholar patroller in Soweto.
“The ANCWL a saddened by the reports alleging that around 83 children were sexually abused by a 57-year-old man who worked as a security guard at AB Xuma Primary School in Orlando East Soweto,” the league said in a statement.
“It is alleged that the perpetrator has been performing his barbaric abusive sexual acts on school children since February this year.”
The ANCWL called on their supporters, members and society to support the victims and their parents and attend the bail hearing in numbers.
“The ANCWL demands that the Department of Education must enforce that all people employed to work within their institution be vetted thoroughly to prevent putting children under the care of paedophiles.”
The man is expected to appear at the Protea Magistrate’s Court on October 18, to apply for bail.
