Dutywa tavern owner robbed, shot dead

KING WILLIAM’S TOWN, September 24 – A Dutywa tavern owner has been robbed and shot dead at his tavern, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
It was alleged that at about 11pm on Saturday night three men arrived at the 47-year-old tavern owner’s homestead at Pikweni location, Cungcwini village, Dutywa, Captain Jackson Manatha said.
The men pretended that they were there to buy liquor. “When the tavern owner was about to serve them, one of the suspects drew a firearm and shot  him on his upper body.”
The men fled after taking an undisclosed amount of money and a cellphone. The tavern owner was rushed to Dutywa Health Centre where he was certified dead on arrival. No arrests had yet been made, Manatha said.
Anyone who might have information about the robbery should contact Dutywa police at 047-489-1333, or Crime Stop 08600-10111.
