JOHANNESBURG, September 12 – Fifteen people were injured Tuesday afternoon following a head-on collision between a taxi and two light motor vehicles on the R56 between Richmond and Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu Natal.
ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said when paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at about 13h00, they found wrecks of the taxi and light motor vehicles in the middle of the road. All three vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.
Paramedics found three people trapped inside the taxi. Another person was trapped inside one of the light motor vehicles. Mering said rescue services used specialised rescue tools to free the trapped patients from the vehicles.
“Once freed, paramedics assessed the patients and found that two had sustained moderate injuries while13 others had sustained minor injuries.
The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to various provincial hospitals for further care,” said Meiring.
The cause of the multiple vehicle collision was being probed by local authorities.
