DURBAN, September 10 – One person died and four others sustained various injuries when two cars collided at the corner of West Street and Prince Alfred Street in the Durban CBD on Sunday morning, paramedics said.
Just after 8am, Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene to find that two cars had collided in a “T-bone format”, Rescue Care spokesman Garrith Jamieson said.
One car then overturned, coming to rest on its side. A woman passenger trapped in the one car sustained major injuries and unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for her and she was declared dead at the scene.
Durban fire department officials freed the passenger from the car. Four people from both cars sustained various injuries and were stabilised on the scene by advanced life support paramedics before being transported to various hospitals for further care. At this stage, the cause of the collision was unknown, Jamieson said.
