Suspected Eastern Cape rapist arrested

KING WILLIAM’S TOWN, September 4 – A 354-year-old man has been arrested by Kei Bridge police for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
The suspect allegedly raped the victim on Saturday night at Mkhonjane village near Kei Bridge, Butterworth, Captain Jackson Manatha said.
“The suspect was chased and caught by the members of the community after he allegedly raped the victim,” he said.
The woman was sleeping alone at her home when she was accosted by the man. She alerted community members after the alleged rape. The community members managed to catch the man and phoned the Kei Bridge police who quickly responded to the scene.
The suspect was not assaulted by the community. He was due to appear in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Manatha said.
Butterworth policing cluster commander Brigadier Trevor Mey thanked the community members for their efforts in combating crime and in their assistance in apprehending criminals.
