Six-year-old boy drowns in NWest dam

POTCHEFSTROOM– A six-year-old boy has drowned in a dam at Potchefstroom in the North West on Saturday morning, paramedics said.

Paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene at about 10.30am where they found the little boy on the embankment of the dam, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.

“It is understood that a man on his fishing boat noticed the boy floating in the water. Sadly, there was nothing that paramedics could do for the boy and he was later declared dead on [the] scene. Family members of the boy were on [the] scene at the time.

“The police were called to the scene for further investigations. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident [are] not known,” Vermaak said.
