JOHANNESBURG, August 3 – Public order police have been deployed to Klipspruit West after protests broke out Thursday morning over the employment of a black principal at Klipspruit West High School.
A bus was set alight in the protests.
South African Police Services spokesperson Kay Makhubele said, “Public order vehicles have been deployed as well as police from Kliptown”.
Makhubele said the police had communicated with the Klipspruit residents who told them that they were protesting against the appointment of a black principal at the school.
MEC of Education Panyaza Lesufi said he is “disappointed” by the development.
By mid morning calm had been restored, but police remain to monitor the area.
