JOHANNESBURG, August 2 – A 28-year-old man has been arrested and is expected to appear in the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly murdering his wife, police said in a statement on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the 26-year-old woman was murdered just after midnight in the early hours of Wednesday morning at Mpuku Location in Chizela Village, Dutywa.
“The deceased suffered multiple upper body injuries. The motive for the murder is not clear at this point in time. This is another shocking and senseless case where a defenceless woman was murdered,” Manatha said.
The Eastern Cape Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga said: “It must be emphasized that the safety of women and children is a top priority of the Eastern Cape Police. The non-stop investigation of such cases is in line with our Back to Basics policing approach which requires effective and responsive investigation of crime utilizing all resources at our disposal to ensure that offenders are brought to book to face the consequences of their ruthless deeds.”
Manatha said the deceased could not be identified until her next of kin were informed of her murder.
The man will appear in court on Friday.
