Pravin Gordhan and Mcebisi Jonas appeared at a debate at University of Johannesburg UJ yesterday, where, appearing together like they often did as Finance and Deputy Finance Minister, they spoke about State Capture.
The event was aired on ENCA. When the panel opened questions to the floor, a student took the microphone and asked a question which has since gone viral, with many slamming ENCA for what they call cencorship. Others celebrated the student for “not being confused” by what they term white monopoly capital propaganda.
Gordhan and another former Finance Minister, Trevor Manuel, have both been fairly vocal about being suspicious about the concept of white monopoly capital. They form part of a section in the ruling party that calls in sloganeering and fueled by British PR company Bell Pottinger. This student, and the ones cheering him on, were having none of it. They demanded that white monopoly capital be acknowledged.
Watch the clip below:
Twitter reacted to the student, with many calling him a hero and a sign of the future of SA.
