BLF disrupts Amabungane ‘Inside the GuptaLeaks’ event

Solly Makganoto

Amabungane, the online newspaper, has advertised an event that was supposed to be a public discussion on the so-called GuptaLeaks and state capture. They advertised the event on social media and other media.

But before the people present could settle into their event, Black First Land First, led by Andile Mngxitama, made their presence felt and disrupted proceedings. BLF has stepped up its protest against what it calls racist journalists and racist white media lately, culminating in a court interdict to stop it from intimating journalists. Thursday night was not the first time Amabhungane have felt the presence of BLF, as one of their journalists Micah Reddy had a confrontation with BLF members a week ago after partaking in the Daily Thetha television show. Despite the threat of charges, BLF has remained steadfast that it will fight what it sees as racist behaviour.

Sources inside the venue say a scuffle broke out when someone tried to attack Mngxitama. Below are photos and videos sent to Weekly Xposé from inside the event. Weekly Xposé tweeted the chaos as it was happening.
