WATCH: Conor McGregor trash talks Mayweather to his face

Staff Reporter

Some people have billed it the fight of the century, others the fight of the millennium, others still have called it a farce, especially the boxing enthusiasts who see it as an insult to the sport. Conor McGregor says he will KNOCK OUT Floyd Mayweather WITHIN FOUR ROUNDS. Did he really say that with a straight face?

What cannot be denied though, is that these are the two most exciting fighters of our age. Mayweather is in many people’s books the best boxer ever, and certainly the best boxer of his era. McGregor is an MMA fighter in the UFC who has turned that world upside down, going between weight divisions and dominating.

Look, to be fair, if this fight was happening in a cage, where legs and wrestling was allowed, Mayweather would be shaking in his boots – McGregor is a maniac, a working-class Dublin, Ireland maniac. However, the wise people in entertainment have moved this fight to the boxing ring where there are restrictions that would definitely favour Mayweather, who to his credit is a boxer of inhuman skill.

Would McGregor beat Mayweather in MMA rules or on the street? The answer is a resounding yes, he is a fighter – kicks, jumping kicks, boxing, Kung Fu, Jiu Jitsu – McGregor is the Bruce Lee of 2017. His understanding of space, timing and raw aggression is second to no-one in the world. He is able to switch fighting styles to suit his opponent. But this fight is not happening on the street, it is happening in a boxing ring in the richest fight of all time, against the best pound-for-pound fighter of his generation.

Can McGregor beat Mayweather in a boxing ring? Mayweather is an artist – the best defence we have probably ever seen and the skillset and footwork that is sure to make McGregor look out of his depth. The odds are stacked highly in the favour of the great boxer Mayweather.

And, as we say, Mayweather will win this fight in the boxing ring unless he is knocked out – and no boxer has ever been able to land that blow, and they will be wearing 10 ounce gloves for this bout so McGregor will have to climb into him in a way that’s never happened before. McGregor will certainly give it a go. However, no matter what happens, Mayweather has certainly never met someone as cocky and confident as himself… until now.
