JOHANNESBURG, July 6 – A 20-year-old male driver was killed and his passenger, a 21-year-old woman, was injured in the early hours of Thursday morning in a car crash along Piet Bosman Road in Potchefstroom.
ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, who were called to the scene at about 03h00, found the badly-damaged vehicle on the side of the road. The male driver was found lying next to his vehicle and the female passenger was found a short distance away.
“Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries,” said Meiring, adding that the man was declared dead on the scene.
Paramedics found the woman was in a serious condition. She had sustained a serious injury to her leg.
Meiring said: “Paramedics treated the woman and provided her with pain-relief medication before she was transported to Mediclinic Potchefstroom for urgent treatment”.
Local authorities are investigating.
