Johannesburg, July 4 – Bidvest Wits have today (Wednesday) unveiled Steven ‘Schillo’ Pienaar as their latest signing. This was after the much talked about speculations as to which team he will sign for, with a lot of PSL clubs showing interest in the player.
The 35-year-old has been without a job since leaving Sunderland at the end of last season, and joins his first club outside the English Premier League in over 10 years.
Pienaar started his career at Ajax Cape Town, before graduating to Ajax Amsterdam in 2001. He made his name during five years stint the Eredivisie.
A transfer to Borussia Dortmund failed to have the desired effect, with Pienaar subsequently loaned out to Everton, before making the move permanent in 2008.
After his flop move to Tottenham in 2011 yielded just 10 appearances before he returned to Everton for a further four years, and then spending another season under David Moyes, this time at the now relegated Sunderland.
Since Gavin Hunt took over at Wits, they have been a team on the rise in recent times, culminating in a first ever League title in the 2016/17 season.
