DURBAN, July 2 – A pedestrian was critically injured and two other people suffered less serious injuries when three cars crashed in Gillespie Street in the Point area of Durban late on Saturday afternoon, paramedics said.
Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene to find that a car had collided with a pedestrian before crashing into a car coming in the opposite direction. This car then smashed into a stationary car and the wall, Rescue Care spokesman Garrith Jamieson said.
“The pedestrian, a male believed to be in his 20s, had sustained critical injuries and advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilise the man on the roadside. The man was placed on a ventilator on the scene.”
Two occupants from one of the other cars sustained minor injuries and were also stabilised by paramedics. Once all three had been stabilised on the scene they were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required. At this stage the events leading up to the collision were unknown, but police were on the scene and would investigate, Jamieson said.
