Three dead, 4 injured in Pietermaritzburg crash

PIETERMARITZBURG, June 16 – Three people have been killed and four others injured in a collision on the N3 near Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen said the accident occurred shortly before midnight on Thursday when a light vehicle and a bakkie collided on the N3 near New England Road.

ER24 paramedics, along with other emergency services, arrived on the scene and found the two wrecked vehicles in the road.

“Sadly three people were found to have sustained fatal injuries,” van Huyssteen said. “Upon closer inspection, the driver of the bakkie was still trapped and ER24 had to use the jaws of life to extricate the man.”
