Cyclist pinned by falling load as truck overturns

JOHANNESBURG, May 29– A cyclist was pinned by a load which fell off a truck as it overturned at the corner of Bayhead Road and South Coast Road in Durban on Monday morning.

Rescue Care said when paramedics arrived at 05:30 they found the cyclist pinned on the sidewalk.

“The man was pinned under the load, which was wooden pallets. Advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilise the man while Durban Fire Department and South African Police Services Search (SAPS) and Rescue worked to free the man,” said Ceron Lennox, operations manager at Rescue Care.

“This took approximately one hour to free the load off the man. Once freed the man was transported in a stable condition to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required.”

SAPS is investigating.
