JOHANNESBURG, May 26 – Kaizer Chiefs take on newly-crowned league champions Bidvest Wits at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, in the final round of the 2016/17 Absa Premiership season.
The Clever Boys secured their maiden PSL title after beating Polokwane City in their penultimate fixture last week, and will be presented with the championship trophy and individual medals in a ceremony after the conclusion of play.
“We have everything to play for because we lost our last two matches and cannot afford to lose a third in a row,” says Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso. “The game is very important for us and the supporters because we would like to move from the 5th position to the 4th on the log.”
“It is no secret that the season was disappointing by Kaizer Chiefs standards and we have been working hard in training to ensure that we close the season on a high. We are all very determined to finish the season on a high so as to please our supporters and sponsors,” he adds.
At one stage during the season Amakhosi enjoyed an impressive 14-match unbeaten run but Cardoso says lapses in concentration in defence at crucial times led to the disappointing season.
“Conceding silly goals should be a thing of the past as we move forward and the team needs to pull up their socks next season so we can bring the glory days back,” he concluded.
