NI Polokwane bridge construction, traffic to be diverted

JOHANNESBURG, May 24 – The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) has announced the temporary road closures of the N1 South of Polokwane, close to Shell Ultra City, to allow for the construction of a new overpass bridge.

Sanral said the construction of the new overpass bridge at Hotel Road could begin as early as Monday.

“Temporary deviations will be in place to avoid the bridge construction sites,” said Sanral in a statement this week.

“A short temporary bypass with bi-directional traffic (1-lane per direction) will be in operation next to the existing N1 at the Weighbridge to construct the Hotel Bridge Overpass. Traffic will flow as normal from North to South but restricted to 1-lane per direction.”

Sanral said the deviations were expected to be in operation for at least 12 months.
