Today sees Premier Soccer League (PSL) strugglers Baroka FC and Highland Park FC locking horns in a must-win encounter at Peter Mokaba stadium. A lot is at stake as whichever team wins increases their chances of staying in the PSL top-flight football league.

“We are not talking about bonuses. We don’t talk about that in the media. The players know they have to fight for their lives” said Baroka fc CEO, Morgan Mammaila on

Both teams are in the danger zone and a win will give them an edge in their quest to stay in the PSL which comes with a cool R1.5-million a month. Unlike in the National First Division League, where teams only get R150 000 a month, teams in the top flight also get enough exposure from potential sponsors as their games are broadcast week in week out.

A team that finishes the league campaign at the bottom will be automatically relegated, where by a team that finishes second from bottom gets a life line by playing in the play-offs with two first division teams that finish second and third respectively. The PSL also announced on their website that the trophy will be handed over on the last day of the league campaign.
