Biker killed near Lanseria after hitting kudu

JOHANNESBURG, April 30 (ANA) – A motorcyclist was killed on the R512 near Lanseria airport north of Johannesburg when he collided with a kudu on Sunday morning, paramedics said.

At 7.30am, paramedics from ER24 were dispatched to the scene where they found the rider, his bike, and the kudu lying several metres apart from each other, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.

“Upon assessment, they found that the rider sustained multiple fatal injuries. Sadly, there was nothing that they could do for him and he was declared dead. The kudu was also found dead.

“A witness explained that he saw the rider and his bike flung into the air, but did not know the man collided with the animal. It was only when he pulled over to assist when he noticed the animal lying on the side of the road,” Vermaak said.

  1. I’m so sorry for the family etc. I went pass there that morning, I’ve seen many bike accidents in my life. My brothers are bikers. I don’t know what it is about this accident that I cant seem to get it out of my head. That fatal morning as we approach the scene of the accident I felt a funny turn in my stomach, as I looked towards the crash I saw the person on the ground, I looked further and saw the bike and as we drove along I saw the kudu. And then I strike me like OMG this person has a family, kids, wife…this man must be in his 30’s and then it happened. I got a lump in my throat, I teared up. As I don’t know this man or his family from a bar of soap, I could actually imagine the hurt they would feel when they get the news. Its just so weird, whenever I hear bikes traveling down our road, my mind goes back to that day. I would really like if somebody could send this on to the “bikers” family. My thoughts are with you daily. And I’m so sorry for your loss. God Bless. Meisie
