After Weekly Xposé published an editorial comment in response to Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s claims as reported by a radio station in which he accused us of publishing lies, his spokesperson Yolisa Tyantsi sent a statement to Weekly Xposé via email in which she acknowledged missing multiple calls from our office landline number.
However, the statement still does not answer two fundamental questions that were sent to Gordhan. And these are whether the minister did receive any payment from the Special Pension Fund and whether he did qualify for such a payment.
We hope a comprehensive statement that the minister’s office has promised to release “at an appropriate time” will provide answers to these crucial questions. See treasury’s statement below.
The answer to your questions are on the very memo you circulated where 3.6 suggests that nothing could be found to support the allegations. Further down the memo demonstrates that since 2015 to date the memo [found] that nothing substantial has been gathered.
Whistleblowers are faceless and one person that can be named has not put the statement under oath.
This is the current debate in the public domain.
To answer to question 2, hopefully you will get in touch with the person as she is identifiable for her to verify Hawks claims.
At an appropriate time National Treasury will issue a statement on the matter.
