Nine injured in taxi and bakkie accident

JOHANNESBURG, March 13 (ANA) -Nine people were injured on Monday morning, one critically, when a taxi and bakkie collided along the N12 in Zuurbekom, west of Johannesburg.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said: “Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision. A critical 29-year-old woman was found lying trapped in the front of the taxi, the paramedics assessed her”.

Meiring said rescue services used the jaws-of-life equipment to free a woman from the vehicle. “Once freed, paramedics treated the woman and provided her with several advanced life support interventions.”

She was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital.

“Eight other patients were found on the scene with injuries ranging from minor to moderate,” said Meiring

The cause of the collision is yet to be established, but local authorities were on the scene investigating.
