In the wake of suspended Citizen Editor Steve Motale’s victory in the labour court, declaring his dismissal from The Citizen invalid, Piet Rampedi, President of the Forum of Journalists for Transformation was interviewed on SABC.
Rampedi led a march to The Citizen towards the end of last year as a direct result of Motale’s public fate at the newspaper. A statement he released at the time about the march to The Citizen read: “The march, which is part of the FJT’s media transformation campaign, is in support of suspended Citizen Steve Motale and other Caxton journalists who are victims of the company’s wanton exploitation, editorial interference, institutionalised racism and an anti-black corporate culture, among others.”
The Citizen has denied any accusations of racism, and have reiterated their stance that Motale’s sacking had to do with procedural matters.
